Lower Protein Content in Peas

WINNIPEG - Oct 5/15 - SNS -- Initial testing of Canada's field pea crop indicates this year's average protein levels are down significantly from last year.

Samples submitted to the Canadian Grain Commission by farmers indicate the average protein content for all grades is 22.1%, compared to 23.9% for all grades during the 2014-15 marketing year.

Farmers submitted 239 samples. Of the total, 46 graded No 1 Canada; 137 No 2 Canada; and 56 No 3 Canada. Farmers in Saskatchewan submitted 139 samples, compared to 85 for Alberta and 15 from Manitoba.
