U.S. Sugarcane Up 3%

WASHINGTON - Sep 11/15 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2015 is forecast at 31.2 million tons, down 3% from the August 1 forecast but up 3% from last year, according to the USDA's latest crop production update.

Producers intend to harvest 880,700 acres for sugar and seed during the 2015 crop year, down 14,000 acres from the previous forecast but up 10,400 acres from last year.

Expected yield for sugar and seed is forecast at 35.4 tons per acre, down 0.5 ton from the August 1 forecast but up 0.4 ton from 2014.
