Near Record Seeding Progress in India

VANCOUVER - Jul 11/15 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's kharif or monsoon season crops continues to make excellent progress in India, with land in pulses up sharply from the previous three years, judging from the latest data available from India's Agriculture Department.

Seeding progress is above the recent five-year average and verging on a record for the first third of July. However, markets in India are worried that an expected reduction in the intensity of the monsoon could cause seeding progress to slow through the end of the month.

That country's domestic markets can be extremely volatile, reacting strongly to changes in monsoon rainfall forecasts as well as day to day demand. Consequently, India's markets can flip from bullish to bearish and back in as many days.
