Pulses Behind Normal Development

REGINA - Jul 3/15 - SNS -- For the second year in a row, significant portion of the pulse crop is behind normal development for this time of year, according to the latest crop update from Saskatchewan Agriculture.

Last year, crops were delayed by cool and wet conditions. This year, hot and dry conditions have been an issue for many growers. Weather forecasts indicate there will be some shower activity this weekend, followed by another week of sunny skies, but moderate daytime temperatures.

The provincial agriculture department said, "Crop development is advancing nicely in most of the province, although many crops in drier areas are short, thin and heading out and/or flowering earlier than normal."

An estimated 63% of the fall cereals, 58% of the spring cereals, 52% of the oilseeds and 59% of the pulse crops are at their normal stages of development for this time of year. Crop conditions vary throughout the province, but the majority of crops are in poor-to-good condition.
