Smaller Sugarcane Harvest Seen
WASHINGTON - Jun 10/15 - SNS -- Production of sugarcane for sugar and seed in 2014 is revised to 30.4 million tons, down 2% from the March estimate and down 1% from 2013, according to the USDA's latest crop production estimates for 2015.
Area harvested for sugar and seed production totaled 870,300 acres for the 2014 crop year, down 3,800 acres from March and down 40,500 acres from the previous year. Yield for sugar and seed is estimated at 35.0 tons per acre, down 0.7 ton from the previous estimate but up 1.2 tons from 2013.
