Railways Supply 56% of Cars For Week 36

VANCOUVER - Apr 30/15 - SNS -- Canada's railways continue to see modest improvements in their ability to supply cars for the week in which they were ordered, according to the latest data accumulated by the Ag Transport Coalition.

During the week ending April 12, the railways supplied 56%, or 4,982 of the 8,864 hopper cars ordered for delivery that week. This compares to 55%, or 4,066 of the 7,406 hopper cars ordered for delivery the previous week.

The actual number of cars spotted at loading facilities in the country was 7,692 cars, including 4,250 for CN Rail and 3,442 for CP Rail. The total included 2,710 cars which were ordered in prior weeks. Since the start of the 2014-15 marketing years, each CN Rail has spotted an average of 3,686 cars per week and CP Rail 3,539.

Since the start of the marketing year, the two railways have not supplied 25,042 hopper cars ordered by shippers for a shortfall of 9%. However, after taking into account rejected cars, denied orders and railway cancellations, the net shortfall is just 10,214 cars.
