Modest Decline in Sugarcane Harvest
WASHINGTON - Feb 10/14 - SNS -- Sugarcane production for sugar and seed in 2013 is forecast at 32.2 million tons in the United States, down fractionally from both January and last year, according to the USDA latest crop report.
Producers intend to harvest 905,600 acres for sugar and seed during the 2013 crop year, unchanged from the previous forecast. Yield for sugar and seed is forecast at 35.6 tons per acre, unchanged from January. In Florida, rain and freezing temperatures in January delayed some harvesting. Estimates for Hawaii, Texas, and Louisiana were carried forward from January.
