U.S. Pulse Crop Inventories Jump

WASHINGTON - Jan 10/14 - SNS -- Dry field pea, lentil and chickpea stocks in the United States were up significantly over the previous year as of December 1, according to the USDA's latest stocks in all positions report.

Pulse crops stored in all positions on December 1, 2013 and the change from December 1, 2012 are:

- dry edible peas, 6.88 million cwt (100 pound units) or 312,075 metric tons (MT), up 33%;

- lentils, 3.59 million cwt or 162,841 MT, up 1%;

- Austrian winter peas, 151,000 cwt or 6,849 MT, up 76%;

- all chickpeas, 2,087,000 cwt or 94,666 MT, up 28%;

- small chickpeas, 736,000 cwt or 33,385 MT, up 4%;

- and large chickpeas, 1,351,000 cwt or 61,281 MT, up 47%.
