Myanmar Pulse Exports Falter

WASHINGTON - Mar 22/13 - SNS -- Dry edible bean exports from Myanmar faltered in January, dropping below month earlier levels, though remaining above the quantity exported during the same month last year.

Of this total, 76% was exported to India followed by Singapore with 11% and China with 5%. Matpe beans (black gram) accounted for 59% of the total exports followed by Mung beans and Toor Whole with 19% and 17% respectively.

Commenting on the current situation, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country said, "January 2013 exports increased 14% compared to the same month last year due to greater demand from India. (I) expect 2013 exports to reach 1.5 million metric tons (MT)."
