South Africa Bean Crop Left Unchanged

VANCOUVER - Sep 26/12 - SNS -- The final production estimate for the 2011-12 season left the dry edible bean production estimate unchanged at 47,695 metric tons (MT), according to data from the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS).

Though up from last year's disappointing 41,980 MT result, dry edible bean production in South Africa appears to be in a downtrend. This year's harvest is well below the recent five-year average of 54,506 MT.

More significantly, the rolling five-year average production level for the country has steadily declined since peaking at 73,158 MT per year for the 2000-01 through 2004-05 period.
