Sugarcane Crop Estimate Up Slightly
WASHINGTON - Feb 10/15 - SNS -- The U.S. sugarcane harvest is now estimated at 30.9 million tons, of which 29.3 million tons was utilized for sugar and 1.55 million tons for seed, according to the latest USDA crop report.
Total production is up slightly from both last month and the previous year. Producers intend to harvest 874,100 acres for sugar and seed during the 2014 crop year, unchanged from the previous forecast.
Expected yield for sugar and seed is forecast at 35.3 tons per acre, unchanged from the previous forecast, but up 1.5 tons per acre from the previous season. Hawaii, Louisiana, and Texas sugarcane estimates were carried forward from January.
