U.S. Pea Seeding Makes Good Progress

VANCOUVER - May 6/14 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's field pea crops continues to make relatively good progress in the United States.

Wet weather is keeping farmers in North Dakota from seeding crops. They only had 1.4 days suitable for fieldwork, with the result field pea seeding progress has fallen 20 points behind the normal pace for the stat for the first week of May. The state's topsoil moisture supplies rated 2 short, 71 adequate, and 27 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 2 short, 80 adequate, and 18 surplus

By contrast, field pea seeding is advancing more quickly than normal in Washington and Idaho. Farmers in Montana make up lost ground during the past week and seeding progress is now at the recent five-year average, with 46% of the state's intended field pea crop now in the ground, along with 21% of the lentils.

Topsoil moisture adequate and surplus is 87% compared with 68% last year and the 5 year average of 86%. Subsoil moisture was 87% adequate and surplus compared to 54% last year and the 5 year average of 75%.
