U.S. Sunflower Inventory Soars 77%

WASHINGTON - Sep 30/13 - SNS -- Old crop sunflower stored in all positions on September 1, 2013 totaled 339 million pounds, up 77% from September 1, 2012, according to the USDA's stocks in all positions report.

Sunflower stocks stored on farms totaled 45 million pounds, up 66% from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 294 million pounds, are up 80% from last September.

All the increase was accounted by oil-type sunflower. Total inventory on September 1 came in at 276 million pounds, almost triple the 101 million pounds on hand last year. By contrast, confectionary sunflower inventory was down almost 30% at 63 million pounds.
