2013 Pea Harvest Starts in U.S.
VANCOUVER - Jul 20/13 - SNS -- North American field pea markets finished the week's trading on an easier note in spot markets as prices adjust to new crop trading levels.
As the week got underway, the first harvest activity was reported in the United States, while some growers in southern Alberta were reported to be dessicating pulse crops. At the start of the week, Montana reports that 8% of its field pea crop was harvested, while 1% of the Washington State crop was in the bin.
Based on current conditions, the first parcels of 2013 crop green split peas could be available for shipment from Canada by the third week of August.
