Canada's Pea Exports Slow in June

VANCOUVER - Jul 11/13 - SNS -- Bulk conventional field pea exports eased in June, judging from preliminary data available from the Canadian Grain Commission.

Unofficial data suggests 170,900 metric tons (MT) of peas could have been loaded to bulk conventional vessels from licensed terminals in Vancouver in June. Bulk conventional clearances of other pulses include 42,300 MT of lentils and 1,500 MT of soybeans.

Movement is expected to slow further in July on account of tight supplies in western Canada. This is evident in a sharp downturn in deliveries into the primary elevator system by growers and anecdotal comments from seed cleaning plants in western Canada.

For the week ending June 30, farmers delivered 10,600 MT of peas into the primary elevator system, compared to 11,900 MT the previous week and the season average of 41,829 MT per week.
