French Pea Exports Improve

VANCOUVER - Jul 6/13 - SNS -- The pace of field pea export movement from France maintained their upward momentum through May, rising above month-earlier, though remaining below year-earlier levels, according to data compiled by the Union Nationale Interprofessionnelle des Plantes Riches en Proteines (UNIP).

Export shipments in May totalled 48,085 metric tons (MT), more than double the 23,385 shipped in April, but shaprly down from the 66,280 MT shipped the same month last year. This lifts export shipments so far this marketing year to 185,815 MT, compared to 319,515 MT during the same period last season.

Europe destinations remained the most important during the month, accounting for at least 51.4% of total field pea exports. But the first shipments of the 2012-13 markleting year were made to India, totalling 23,275 MT.
