Year of Pulses Passes Second Stage

ROME - Jun 21/13 - SNS -- The proposal to have 2016 declared the International Year of Pulses passed the second stage of approval at the United Nations today.

CICILS President Hakan Bahceci and Executive Director Gavin Gibson reported that FAO commission members unanimously voted in favor of the proposal. This is the second stage in a three stage process which should culminate in formal final approval at a meeting of the UN in New York in December.

CICILS representatives at the meeting included Bahceci, Gibson, along with executive committee members Gordon Bacon and Cindy Brown and with considerable support from consultant Robynne Anderson and key private sector players including Beppe Urso, Executive Vice President of Leo Burnett World Wide, Birgit Schleifenbaum from major Swiss ingredients and flavors manufacturer Firmenich and Katia Sambin from ACOS.

The original motion was moved by the Turkish and Pakistan Governments.
