Last Gasp for Canadian Bulk Pea Exports?

VANCOUVER - Jun 7/13 - SNS -- The pace of field pea exports from Canada managed a significant improvement in May, more than doubling movement in April and jumping 53% above the average monthly pace set between August and April.

Unofficial data suggests 291,200 metric tons (MT) of peas could have been loaded to bulk conventional vessels from licensed terminals in Vancouver in May, while 900 MT was shipped directly from country elevators.

Movement is expected to slow considerably in June and July on account of tight supplies in western Canada. Though farmers are still preoccupied with spring field work, weekly deliveries to the primary elevator system are low and several processors report considerable difficulty sourcing product from farmers.
