World Pulses Generally Tight

SINGAPORE - Apr 21/13 - SNS -- The big story of the 2012 CICILS convention was the failure of winter pulse crops in Pakistan and problems with India's rabi season kabuli chickpea and red lentil crops.

The big story of the 2013 CICILS convention was the failure of India's red lentil crop and fundamental shortages of a wide array of pulses grown in various parts of the world.

While Pakistan's pulse crops have fully recovered and the supply situation has reversed itself, the Indian subcontinent is still struggling with shortages. This has resulted in stronger than expected demand for a wide range of pulses, including lentils and field peas.
