Canada's Bulk Pea Exports Quicken

VANCOUVER - Apr 9/13 - SNS -- The pace of field pea exports from Canada has quickened since the start of the calendar year, with March having a chance to emerge as the busiest month of the 2012-13 marketing year.

Unofficial data suggests 355,000 metric tons (MT) of peas could have been loaded to bulk conventional vessels from licensed terminals in Vancouver. If that turns out to be the case, it will be the first time since September of 2011 that more 300,000 MT of peas moved through the port in a single month.

More significantly, bulk movement in the January-March quarter, represents 43% of all pea movement since the start of the Canada's marketing year. Overall movement of field peas is normally strongest between harvest the end of the December, suggesting this season's movement profile is atypical.
