STAT -- Our 25th Year

STAT was created 25 years ago, with the first edition of the our first newsletter mailed to subscribers on August 5, 1988. We delivered the newspaper through the Post Office for a long time before we started to deliver the newsletter by fax. In the early 1990s we created a dial-in bulletin board and started delivering market information by email. The first email subscribers were farmers in Saskatchewan.

STAT's website was launched on May 17, 1995. The first article was headlined: "Australian Pea Growers Encouraged to Think Wheat". On March 28, 1997 we registered the statpub.com domain name and started hosting our website on our own servers. Thus began the transition from a print-based into a web-based company.

Our 25th in business was also notable, with Liam Clancey joining the company to found and manage our book publishing division. Along with a marketing intelligence handbook for farmers entitled The 20-Month Year, he is the editor for the Export Essentials series of quarterly statistical books.


Export Essential: Q2 2013 is Free

To help mark the fact our company has been in business for 25 years and to help us move in new directions, the PDF version of the upcoming edition of the Export Essentials statistical series will be sent to all subscribers for free. To help celebrate our long involvement and partnership with this industry, we have also offered a free one-page ad to all pulse and specialty crop associations.

Those ads will give your industry association a chance to promote your country or region as an important source of pulses or other specialty crops or to celebrate your regional and national diversity as consumers. Ask your association if they have received our invitation and if they will take advantage of this opportunity.

We will also be distributing the upcoming edition of Export Essentials for free to all individuals who attend this year's CICILS conference in Singapore. The book will be published after the convention and we will do that by emailing all participants a download link for the PDF.

We will do this again in 2014. Instead of only distributing the book as a PDF, we want to print enough copies to include them in the delegate bags for individuals attending the 2014 CICILS convention. That will be an advertising-supported venture. If successful, we will try to expand the number of editions that are made available for free in 2015 and 2016.

This book will be an exciting addition to the delegate bags in 2014 because it will be a useful and practical compilation of export trade data, supply-demand forecasts, and other information. The Export Essentials book series already contains information which is not available as part of your regular STAT subscription. Our intention is to build on that base to create a book in which the data reveals its story, whether viewed as a PDF file on your computer or a printed book. It will be one delegate gift which will end up and stay on the desks of decision makers around the world and throughout the industry.
