India's Pulse Area Just Behind Last Year

VANCOUVER - Dec 28/12 - SNS -- India's farmers planted about as many pulses during the past week as they did during the same week last year.

As of December 28, India's farmers had planted 13.252 million hectares of pulses, down from 13.854 million at this time last year. As a result the gap between this and last year inched up from 592,000 to 602,000 hectares. Total area is now just behind the recent average for this time of year of 13.327 million hectares.

By this time, farmers in India have normally planted 92% of their rabi season pulses and 90% of all crops.
