Edible Beans Remain Firm

VANCOUVER - Oct 28/12 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets finished the week's trading on a relatively firm note against ongoing worries about exportable surpluses in South America and defensive pricing by North American shippers.

The week saw a two point decline in the spot price index for U.S. beans to 1308 points. while the grower bid index dropped six points to finish at 1204.

Exporters in Canada and the United States remain hopeful Mexico will be their biggest customer in 2012-13, though they are more mindful of the need to expand their customer list.

Argentine exporters maintained their defensive pricing posture because available supplies of good quality white alubia beans remains tight.
