South Africa Strives to Boost Bean Area

VANCOUVER - Oct 25/12 - SNS -- Farmers in South Africa intend to plant more dry edible beans during the summer cropping cycle in hopes of taking advantage of unusually strong prices for the sector.

Data published by the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS) reveals farmers intend to seed 45,000 hectares of dry edible beans.

This is up 13% from last year and 5% above the recent five-year average seeded area for dry edible beans of 42,670 hectares.
