South African Bean Future Worrisome

PRETORIA - Jul 24/12 - SNS -- There was not change in the dry edible bean production forecast for the summer crop of the 2011-12 season, according to the latest crop estimates from the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS).

This left the edible bean production estimate at 47,695 metric tons (MT), up from last year's 41,980 MT, but below the previous five year average of 51,957 MT.

In releasing updated production numbers for the 2011-12 season, SAGIS also released its first estimate of the winter area for the 2012-13 crop cycle. It is expecting land in wheat to sink from 604.700 hectares to just 546.700. Land in canola is expected to inch up from 43,510 to 45,490 hectares; while land in malting barley advances from 80,150 to 83,2890 hectares.
