WASHINGTON - Jun 29/12 - SNS -- Planted area of safflower increased 13% from 2011, to 147,500 acres in 2012, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2012.

This is the second lowest planted area for the Nation since records began in 1991. Area for harvest is forecast at 141,500 acres, up 11% from last year. Compared with last year, growers in Montana and North Dakota planted more acreage due to much improved planting conditions this spring.
