Spain's Conditions Deteriorate

WASHINGTON - May 4/12 - SNS -- Conditions in Spain have deteriorated versus last year, with the result the country is looking at a major increase in the quantity of grain it needs to import in the coming season.

Though not discussing import prospects for fields peas and other pulses, the recent report from the U.S. agricultural attache for the country raises hopes that Spain will re-emerge as a buyer of offrade pulses suitable for use in livestock feed.

The U.S. agricultural attache notes that despite the slightly increased area planted to winter grains in 2012-13, production will likely drop 25%.
