Modest Growth in Myanmar Pulses

WASHINGTON - Mar 22/12 - SNS -- Dry edible bean and pulse production in Myanmar is expected to increase slightly this year, according to a recent report from the U.S. agricultural attache for the country.

Beans and pulses production in Myanmar is mainly based on residual soil moisture left from the monsoon season after the main rice crop has been harvested; the yields are between 1,100 and 1,200 kilograms per hectare or from 980 to 1,070 pounds per acre.

As is the case with wheat, farmers hold back seed from their harvest to plant the next crop. This contributes to lower average yields, quality and grain size.
