Myanmar Pulse Exports Quicken

WASHINGTON - Mar 14/12 - SNS -- The pace of dry edible bean and other pulse exports from Myanmar improved in January, with shipments rising above both month and year earlier levels.

Shipments finished the month at 92,621 metric tons (MT), up 14% from 81,145 MT in January 2011. Toor whole accounted for 48% of the total exports, followed by matpe (black gram) 30%, and mung bean 18%.

India and Singapore were the largest buyers accounting for 65,225 MT or 70% and 12,770 MT or 14% of total exports, respectively. Additionally, 16% of the total mung bean exports or 2,596 MT were traded with China through border trade.
