Stocks Numbers Surprise Peas
VANCOUVER - Feb 4/12 - SNS -- North American field pea markets were caught off-guard by the latest stocks in all positions report from Statistics Canada.
According to the report peas in all positions plunged from 2.465 million metric tons (MT) to just 897,000 as of December 31, 2011. The number was much lower than expected.
If export shipments in December end up around 250,000 MT, then the quantity of peas "diverted" into livestock feed would be an unprecedented 472,883 MT.
