India's Farmers Focus on ChickpeasVANCOUVER - Jan 27/12 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's rabi or winter season crops in India continues to inch toward completion, with farmers continuing to plant small amounts of land. According to the latest update from India's agriculture department, land in all rabi season crops is down 1,4% from this time last year at 60.165 million hectares. Pulses have been sown in 14.586 million hectares, down 0.6% from the 14.676 million sown by this time last year. "Significantly, higher area has been reported in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat and Bihar under gram, which is a dominant pulse crop of rabi season," the agriculture department stressed.
