South Africa Bean Area Drops
VANCOUVER - Jan 24/12 - SNS -- Dry edible bean production faces a slight risk of declining for the fourth year in a row because of a significant drop in seeded area, judging from the preliminary seeded area estimates from the South Africa Grain Information Service (SAGIS).
Land in dry edible bean beans is expected to drop 11.2% from last year to just 37,200 hectares, the first time since 1998 that land in beans has fallen under 40,000 hectares.
If yields are at their recent five-year average production will increase modestly from 41,980 to 43,500 metric tons (MT)
