Pea Export Movement Jumps in December

VANCOUVER - Jan 4/12 - SNS -- Bulk conventional exports of pulses and other specialty crops from Canada improved in December, with total shipments rising 39% from the previous month, though dropping 15% from the same month last year.

During the month, exporters loaded five ships at Vancouver with 185,066 metric tons (MT) of peas; two ships at Vancouver with 39,070 MT of lentils. Bulk conventional movement of other specialty crops through licensed terminals included: 12,147 MT of canaryseed; 506 MT of mustard seed; and 1,352 MT of soybeans.

Looking forward, movement will likely be down from from last year in January. So far, exporters have nominated three vessels to lift peas from Vancouver this month.
