Firm Finish for World Beans

VANCOUVER - Dec 9/11 - SNS -- North American dry edible bean markets finished the week on a firm note against rising demand from Mexico and confirmation of the reduced U.S. crop in the USDA's final crop report of the calendar year.

Production of all classes of beans is down 38% at 895,024 metric tons (MT). But, production of pinto beans is down over 57% at just 268,121 MT; and black bean output is down 36% at 135,807 MT.

The drop in the U.S. harvest is matched by smaller production in both Canada and Mexico, resulting in a solid increase in import demand.
