Rabi Seeding Pace Slower in Past Week

DELHI - Nov 18/11 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's rabi or winter season crops has fallen behind last year, judging from the latest data available from India's agriculture department.

While total pulse and oilseed plantings remain ahead of last year, planting of wheat and other grains is off to a slower start. It is also worth noting that farmers planted fewer pulses during the past week than they did during the comparable week last year.

"According to preliminary reports, wheat has been shown in 7.667 million hectare against 8.592 million hectare last year on this date," reports the agriculture department.
