Saskatchewan Harvest Progress Closer to Normal

VANCOUVER - Aug 25/11 - SNS -- Farmers in Saskatchewan made excellent harvest during the past week, with 9% of all crops in the bin, just behind the recent 5-year average of 10% complete by this time of the month and well ahead of last year, when just 2% of the crop had been harvested.

Last year's harvest was constantly interrupted by wet weather. This year conditions are warm and dry, notes Saskatchewan Agriculture in its weekly Crop Report.

That is expected to remain the story through September 10 in southern and western crop districts in Saskatchewan, with areas north of that expected to receive more moisture. Over the same period, temperatures are expected to stay well above freezing.
