Peas Steady in Light Trade

VANCOUVER - Jul 15/11 - SNS -- Field pea markets were little changed in light trade during the past week, with grower selling interest remaining close to the short term needs of processors and exporters.

Markets were also supported by the seeded area estimates for the United States, which revealed farmers only managed to plant 416,000 of the 586,000 acres they intended to grow this year.

For the first time in the history of the industry, lentil area in the United States will exceed peas. However, because average pea yields are higher than lentils, more peas will still be grown.
