Peas Firm on Ongoing Demand
VANCOUVER- Jun 17/11 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by ongoing short covering by exporters and tightening stocks on farms in western Canada.
Markets in the United States found modest support from the latest USDA PL-480 food aid tender, which is seeking 11,250 metric tons (MT) of split yellow and 490 MT of split green peas for movement from origin by the end of July.
The USDA is the single largest buyer of U.S. origin split peas this season, resulting in "made in the USA" pricing for the commodity.
