Firmer Finish in Edible Beans

VANCOUVER - Sep 24/10 - SNS -- The world's dry edible bean markets showed some firmness in the past week against steady demand from Turkey and Brazil for white and colored beans, respectively.

This left the spot market index for U.S. origin beans up 12 points at 886, while the spot grower bid index slipped 2 points to 789 as grower deliveries and selling inched ahead of the immediate needs of processors and exporters.

However, most buyers were absent from markets, preferring to wait for SIAL in Paris to see whether face to face negotiations can result in better prices. That international food show has grown in importance in recent years for setting the initial tone of markets in the fall and winter shipping period.
