Myanmar Pulse Exports Rise in June

VANCOUVER - Aug 7/10 - SNS -- Pulse exports from Myanmar for the first half of the 2010 calendar year are down by almost 50% from the same period last year, with shipments in June recording the eighth consecutive month in which exports were down from year earlier levels on account of reduced demand from India.

Matpe accounted for 62% of the total exports, followed by Toor Whole (Pigeon pea) 25% and Mung bean 9%. India remained the largest buyer accounting for 84% of total exports.

Border trade with China totaled 2,147 metric tons (MT) or 3% of total exports. Domestically, 320 MT of Matpe raw, 20,200 MT of Matpe ready cargo, 3,200 MT of Matpe special quality ready cargo, and 50 MT of Toor Whole were traded at the Bayint Naung Market, Rangoon in June.
