Lentils Ease Into New Crop Focus

PANAMA - Jun 21/24 - SNS -- Spot markets for international lentils maintained a softer undertone because of diminished short term buying interest and some reluctance to add to new crop positions.

Markets are anxious to see the coming week's seeded area estimates for both Canada and the United States, with some participants expecting area to exceed this year's intentions.

Many buyers believe such an outcome would result in lower asking prices during the fall shipping period> They expect growers to take advantage of relatively high new crop bid levels, while processors and exporters try to avoid accumulating unsold inventories at a time of rising international competition for available demand.
