Field Pea Area Down But Yields Up
WASHINGTON - Sep 12/22 - SNS -- Production of all classes of dry field peas in the United States is expected to reach 11.1 million cwt (100 pound Units) or roughly 503,000 metric tons (MT), up 29% from last year, according to the USDA's latest production forecast.
Area planted is estimated at 914,000 acres, down 10% from the previous forecast, and down 6% from 2021. Area harvested is forecast at 863,000 acres, down 11% from the previous forecast, but up 3% from 2021. The average yield is expected to be 1,280 pounds per acre, up 255 pounds from 2021.
In Montana, harvest was 99% complete as of the week ending August 28, well ahead of the comparable week from the previous season of 97%. In North Dakota, harvest was 58% complete as of the week ending August 28, well ahead of the comparable week from the previous season of 88%.
