Field Peas Maintain Firm Tone

PANAMA - Sep 2/22 - SNS -- Field pea markets maintained their relatively firm tone through the past week, influenced by the slower than normal pace of the Canadian harvest because of recent wet conditions in parts of the growing area.

As the week got underway, Saskatchewan's harvest was 66% complete, down from 84% at the same time last year and behind the recent five year average of 76% in the bin by the end of August.

Markets were unaffected by Statistics Canada preliminary estimate this year'ls field pea harvest could advance from 2.258 to 3.61 million metric tons (MT). Yellow peas remain the dominant class grown in the country, accounting for an estimated 87% of the prospective harvest, compared to 12% for green peas and 1% for all other classes.
