Dry Beans Remain Firm

PANAMA - Jul 1/22 - SNS -- International dry edible bean markets maintained their firm tone during a holiday shortened trading week, with markets not urprised to see plantings in the United States fall short of the intentions of farmers.

The key problem was weather induced seeding delays in North Dakota and more intense competition for land use than initially expected. Area in the state ended up at 580,000 acres, down from 660,000 last year and an intended 650,000.

As a result total area sown in the United States reached 1.281 million acres in those states covered by the USDA. Included those states now excluded by the USDA, area likely ended up closer to 1.334 million acres, down from 1.458 million last year.
