Peas Mull Export Future
PANAMA - Apr 29/22 - SNS -- Field pea markets finished the week's trading with limited changes even though farmers in Canada intend to plant fewer acres to the crop then many expected.
Statistics Canada's March survey of growers found they intend to seed 3.551 million acres of all classes of peas this year, down from 3.82 million last year.
If yields are at their previous five year average, production would advance from 2.258 to 3.316 million metric tons (MT), roughly 440,000 MT below the previous five year average. If realized, yields would come in at 2,059 pounds per acre, well below the 2,285 pounds average between 2016 and 2020.
