Initial Pea Harvest in Canada

REGINA - Jul 29/21 - SNS -- Initial harvest activity in peas is being reported in parts of western Canada, though the percentage of the crop in the bin is considered insignificant.

In its latest crop report, Saskatchewan Agriculture noted, "Heat has accelerated the ripening and maturation of all crops across the province and some producers have begun harvesting. The estimated yields for many crops across the province is expected to be well below average. Any rain now won't increase yields but would have a positive effect next year."

The situation in Manitoba is mixed, with Manitoba Agriculture reporting relatively good initial yields of 1,800 pounds per acre in central parts of the province, with growers in the region optimistic remaining fields will be closer to average.
