India Targets 32 MMT Pulses by 2030

PANAMA - Feb 11/21 - SNS -- Buoyed by success reaching its initial annual production targets for pulses, India's agriculture department wants to see average pulse output reach 32 million metric tons (MT) by the year 2030.

India is several years away from the point where its population is expected to plateau. Current estimates see the number of people in the country ranging between 1.46 and 1.51 billion by 2030.

That means the minimum dietary requirements for gross pulses would reach 25.48 million MT, while the optimal requirement would be closer to 29.12 million during the 2030 calendar year.
