Peas Optimistic About Chinese Demand

PANAMA - Oct 9/20 - SNS -- International field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, helped by optimistic forecasts for feed ingredient demand from China.

In a recent report, the U.S. agricultural attache for the country said government stocks of corn and other feed ingredient ingredients were largely depleted over the past year, with the result the country will be more reliant on imports to cover its needs.

The U.S. agricultural attache expects total feed consumption to increase 3.2% over 2019-20 to around 218.9 million metric tons (MT) based on "projected swine restocking and strong growth in the poultry and ruminant sectors."
