U.S. Beans Condition Inches Upward

WASHINGTON - Jul 30/19 - SNS -- The condition of dry edible bean crops in the United States improved slightly during the past week, judging from state level crop updates from the USDA's NASS.

The proportion rated in good condition increased from 59% to 61%, while crops rated in fair condition slipped from 25% to 23% and crops rated in poor or very poor conditions was unchanged at 5%. All states for which crop ratings are available account for 84% of the total seeded area.

Crop development is behind last year in most states. North Dakota crop reporters say 81% of the crop is in bloom, compared to 91% at this time last year, with 43% setting pods, compared to 56% last year.

In Minnesota 71% of the crop has completed blooming, 5 days behind normal, with 33% setting pods, two days behind normal. In Montana, 41% of the dry bean and chickpea crop is now in bloom and 10% setting pods.
