WASHINGTON - Nov 10/15 - SNS -- Sorghum production in the U.S. is forecast at 594 million bushels, up 4% from last month and up 37% from last year, according to the latest USDA crop production estimates for 2015.
Area harvested for grain is forecast at 7.65 million acres, unchanged from October but up 19% from 2014. Based on November 1 conditions, yield is forecast at a record 77.7 bushels per acre, up 2.7 bushels from last month and up 10.1 bushels from last year. Record high yields are expected in Kansas, Nebraska, and South Dakota.
As of November 1, sorghum harvest was 79% complete, 15 percentage points ahead of last year and 7 percentage points ahead of the five-year average.
